How to Play

Lotto is our original Saturday night lottery game and the starting point for playing to win on Saturdays. Strike and Powerball are ‘add-on’ games, in order to play them, you must play Lotto first.  You can play just Lotto, Lotto plus Strike, Lotto plus Powerball, or all three together.

The aim of the games is to match the numbers on a line of your ticket to the winning numbers drawn for that particular draw.

Lotto costs 60 cents per line. If you’re picking your own numbers, you must choose a minimum of four lines, which will cost you $2.40.  You can also play Dips, which range from $6 to $12 for Lotto.

Strike costs $1 per line. You can add 1 to 20 lines of Strike to your Lotto ticket.

Powerball costs 60 cents per line. If you’re picking your own numbers, you must choose a minimum of four lines and you must play Lotto also, which will cost you $4.80.  You can also play Dips, which range from $12 to $24 for Lotto Powerball.

Picking your own numbers is the way to go. If you like a bit more control, or have some favourite numbers you want to play.

Picking your own is super easy with our ticket builder. Simply use the number selector to pick six numbers from between 1 and 40 to get a line of Lotto. You need to pick a minimum of four lines on a ticket, you can choose more if you’re feeling lucky!

Dips are the easy, no fuss way to play Lotto, Powerball and Strike. Simply choose which Dip you would like and the computer will randomly pick your numbers for you. Take a look at the options outlined below:

    • Adding Strike to your Lotto ticket

The aim of Strike is to pick the first four Lotto Numbers in the correct order – the more you pick in the right order, the more you can win. To play Strike, you need to pick four numbers from between 1 and 40 and the order you think they will be drawn – for example, if you think number 23 will be first out of the draw barrel pick that number first on your ticket.

Remember, Strike is an add on game, which means you need to play Lotto first.  Like Lotto, you can either pick your own numbers using the ticket builder, or you can play a dip.  You can play as few as one line or as many as 20 lines of Strike!

  • Adding Powerball to your Lotto ticket

    • Adding Powerball to your Lotto ticket

The aim of Powerball is to select the correct Powerball number that is Drawn. Powerball is an add on game, which means you need to play Lotto in order to play Powerball.  Powerball has its own numbers and a separate draw, which happens immediately after the Lotto draw.

To play Powerball, pick one number from between 1 and 10 for each Lotto line on your ticket. Looking at your ticket, the Powerball number sits at the end of the Lotto line in its own special ‘Powerball’ column.

You can choose to have the same Powerball number for all of your Lotto lines, or mix it up. You can pick your Powerball number(s) yourself or get a random selection.  The choice is yours!

  • Winning Wheel

    • Winning Wheel

Every Lotto ticket has a serial number. Each week one serial number is randomly drawn.

When the Winning Wheel serial number is announced on the live Lotto draw, the last two digits will be hidden with “XX”. This is for security reasons but rest assured, if the rest of the numbers match then you’re our Winning Wheel winner!

The holder of the ticket with the winning serial number is invited to appear on the live Lotto draw to spin the Winning Wheel. The Winning Wheel contains both cash and non-cash prizes with values from $100,000 up to one top prize of $1 million. If you do not wish to appear on the live Lotto draw there are a couple of options: you can choose to nominate someone to appear and spin the Winning Wheel on your behalf, or take a guaranteed $25,000.

As a part of the Winning Wheel prize you’ll get a weekend for two away in Wellington where you’ll be treated to luxury accommodation with all meals included and a shopping spree with a stylist. On Saturday night you will get to spin the Winning Wheel on the live Lotto draw and you are guaranteed to walk away with one of the awesome 30 prizes the Winning Wheel has to offer – feel free to invite your family and friends to attend the draw too so they can cheer you along!

  • Lotto Jackpots

    • Lotto Jackpots

      First division jackpots
The top prizes for Lotto, Lotto Powerball and Lotto Strike will each jackpot if the First Division in that game is not won. However there are limits to this:

      • Lotto may not jackpot for more than four consecutive weeks
      • Lotto Powerball may not jackpot after the First Division jackpot has reached $30 million
      • Lotto Strike may not jackpot for more than nine consecutive weeks.

In the rare instance that one of these situations occurs, a ‘Must Be Won’ draw will be called for the game concerned. In a ‘Must Be Won’ draw, if the top prize is not won, the jackpot amount rolls down to the winner(s) of the next highest winning division.

$1 million cap on Lotto First Division
The prize for Lotto First Division is capped at $1 million each week. However, the Lotto First Division prize will still jackpot to $2 million if it is not struck in a given week.
