Lotto players raise over $2.7 million for Kaikoura
Thanks to Lotto players, over $2.7 million is going to help Kaikoura/Hurunui and the surrounding regions rebuild after the devastating earthquake last month.
“All profits from last night’s draw are going to help the people of Kaikoura,” said Lotto NZ’s Chief Executive.
“Lotto NZ is in a privileged position to galvanise our retail network of over 1,400 stores around the country, as well as MyLotto.co.nz and our app to help hundreds of thousands Kiwis grab a ticket for last night’s draw.
“Caring about our communities and each other is part of the Kiwi way of life and it was heart-warming to see Lotto players really embrace this special draw to help the people of Kaikoura.
“Not only did almost 60,000 players win prizes, including the top Powerball prize, but over $2.7 million is now going directly to help communities in need in Kaikoura/Hurunui and the Marlborough regions.”
All profits from last night’s draw will be transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board, who will administer the distribution of funding to support earthquake relief in Kaikoura/Hurunui and the Marlborough regions.
Lotto NZ exists to generate essential funding for Kiwi communities, with $204 million transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board last year to help make good things happen around the country.
Lotto players help generate essential funding for over 3,000 community organisations and projects every year, as well providing a major source of funding for Sport New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission.
