Powerball’s $10 million draw to support Kaikoura
As if a $10 million Powerball jackpot wasn’t enough, Lotto NZ is giving Kiwis another reason to pick up a ticket for tomorrow night’s draw – 100 percent of profits will be going to help the people of Kaikoura.
Every single ticket bought for tomorrow’s Lotto, Powerball and Strike draw will help generate essential funds for the people of Kaikoura and surrounding regions affected by the recent earthquakes.
“Lotto NZ exists to generate funding for community purposes, and Kaikoura is a community in need right now,” said Lotto NZ’s Chief Executive Wayne Pickup.
To support tomorrow’s special draw, Lotto NZ has boosted the Powerball jackpot to $10 million, meaning there’s even more to play for on Saturday night.
“Lotto NZ is in a privileged position to help generate funding for communities in need, and our staff and retailers around the country are proud to support this special draw.
“But it’s really all about the Lotto players, who know that just by picking up a ticket for tomorrow’s draw they’re not only in with a chance to win $10 million, but are also supporting Kaikoura at the same time.”
The Minister of Internal Affairs has directed Lotto NZ to run a special purpose lottery for the 10 December draw in order to benefit the people affected by the Kaikoura earthquake, which is permissible under the Gambling Act 2003.
Lotto NZ exists to generate essential funding for Kiwi communities, with $204 million transferred to the NZ Lottery Grants Board last year to help make good things happen around the country.
Lotto funding is a major source of funding for Sport New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand Film Commission and over 3,000 community organisations and projects every year.
