Cromwell couple claim $1 million Lotto prize
Lucky grandparents from Cromwell are beginning to house-hunt after winning $1 million with Lotto First Division on Saturday night.
The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, had no idea that they were carrying around a ticket worth $1 million until they popped out to do the grocery shopping.
“My wife was picking up the shopping and thought she may as well check our Lotto ticket at the same time – the first we knew about the win was when ‘Major Prize Winner’ flashed up on the screen.
“She raced straight home, burst through the door and flicked this little slip of paper towards me. As soon as I picked it up I saw all those zeros – so many zeros! I couldn’t believe it, we were both bouncing off the walls,” said one of the winners.
When it came to celebrating their good fortune, the winners knew exactly what they wanted to do.
“We splashed out on our favourite takeaways for dinner that night – after all, who wants to cook when you’ve just become millionaires?” the winner laughed.
With $1 million now sitting in their bank account, the winners are looking forward to finally buying the home of their dreams.
“We’ve always dreamed of buying a home of our own and are so excited that we can finally begin hunting for our family home. It really is a dream come true, we couldn’t be happier.”
The winners are the 17th Kiwis to become instant millionaires thanks to Lotto so far this year.
The winning ticket was sold at New World Cromwell in Cromwell.
