Fishing on the cards for $250,000 Levin Lotto winner
A regular Lotto player who bought a lucky ticket in Levin is prepping his fishing rods after winning $250,000 with Lotto First Division on Saturday.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was on holiday visiting his daughter when he decided to buy a Triple Dip from a store he thought could be luckier than most.
“I just thought if I was ever going to win Lotto, it would be with a ticket from a store like this one – it just felt lucky. There was no rhyme or reason to think that, but I’ll never forget the feeling,” the winner said.
The winner spent much of his holiday at the beach and promptly forgot about his ticket, which he had left with his daughter for safe keeping.
It wasn’t until his daughter was grocery shopping a few days later that the family had any idea the ticket was worth a small fortune.
“When I handed the ticket over the counter and was told it was a First Division winner, I just walked out of the shop and left it there,” the winner’s daughter said.
“I called Dad straight away and told him he had won First Division, but I couldn’t tell him exactly how much because I’d left in such a fluster!” she laughed.
When the winner found out exactly how lucky he had become, he couldn’t contain his excitement and immediately shared the good news with a friend who he was with at the time.
“He just smiled, said ‘Gee you’re a lucky man!’ and shook my hand. Then we went out for a couple of beers to celebrate,” the winner said.
When it comes to spending his winnings, the winner plans to spend more time with family and doing the things he loves most.
“I’ll definitely be hitting the beach more with my grandkids and going fishing. Apart from that everything will stay the same – except I’ll be buying the best fish from the store if I don’t manage to catch any!” the winner laughed.
The winning ticket was sold at Levin New World in Levin.
