Gisborne’s missing millionaire has been found
After three weeks, the search is over – Gisborne’s missing Lotto millionaire has been found.
The Gisborne local was in shock when she found out she had won $1 million with Lotto First Division while checking her ticket at work yesterday.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the ticket three weeks’ earlier before jetting off overseas to visit family.
“I bought my ticket, popped it in my purse and then three days later I was off overseas – I totally forgot about it.”
It wasn’t until the winner came back to work that she remembered that she’d bought a Lotto ticket recently.
“Everyone was talking about someone from Gisborne winning $1 million and that it hadn’t been claimed. So I asked my work colleague to write down the winning numbers from that draw, just in case it might be me,” the winner said.
“I sat there quietly checking off the numbers and once I realised I had won I just yelled ‘It’s me! I’m the winner!’. I was so excited I had to share it!
“Everyone in the office was so happy for me. They all came up to me and gave me hugs. It was so exciting, a lot of people said to me I was the first millionaire they’d ever met – some people wanted to touch me for luck,” she laughed.
“It was such a good surprise, it’s still sinking in.”
With the winnings safely in her bank account, the woman is now planning to make the most of her big win.
“I want to build a house and help out my family, that is really important to me. I feel so lucky to have won and I am looking forward to what the future may bring.”
The winning ticket was sold at Kaiti Supervalue for the Lotto draw on Wednesday 24 August.
Gisborne’s luck continues with four Lotto Second Divison winning tickets sold at Ideal Store for Wednesday night’s Lotto draw, and one Gisborne player winning Lotto Second Division with a ticket bought on MyLotto. Each player won $8,411 each.
And a Lotto player from Tokomaru Bay also won $8,411 with Lotto Second Division on Wednesday night. The winning ticket was bought from Tokomaru Bay Four Square.
