Horowhenua MyLotto winner celebrates with hardware store date
It’s been an extra lucky week for MyLotto players with two players from Horowhenua and Opotiki winning $500,000 each with Lotto First Division on Wednesday 2 March.
Meanwhile three other MyLotto players were celebrating windfalls of their own after each winning $10,266 with Lotto Second Division in the same draw.
The Horowhenua winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, had no idea he had won a major prize until he watched his ticket get checked online the day after the draw.
“I watched the numbers being circled off on my ticket and sat there stunned – all my numbers matched up. It was such a crazy moment,” the winner said.
When it began to sink in that the winner had indeed won the prize of a lifetime, he told his wife and decided a change of plans was in order – it was time for a date to the hardware store.
“I needed some new tools so my wife and I went on a spontaneous outing to the hardware store – we were like kids in a candy store!
“After buying all the tools I’d ever dreamed of we went to a nearby restaurant to celebrate with a cold beer and glass of wine – it was a really special afternoon and so much fun knowing we had such an awesome secret,” the winner said.
Since MyLotto was introduced in 2008, over $171 million in prizes have been distributed to over 8 million winners – including a lucky player who won $13 million with Powerball in October last year.
