Lotto Millionaire in the Fast Lane
There will no slowing a car-loving Whangarei couple down, after they won $1 million with Lotto First Division on the weekend.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, are regular Lotto players and are passionate about classic cars.
“It’s been a bit of a dream of ours to buy a classic American Mustang,” said the winner.
“Now we can actually buy the car of our dreams and say good bye to the little hatchback we’ve been driving for years.”
The couple only realised they had won the million dollar prize after checking their numbers online at MyLotto.co.nz on Sunday night.
“I was checking off my ticket, when I realised all the numbers were all ticked off on the one line.
“I couldn’t believe it. After checking my numbers 2-3 times, I made a family member check them too,” says the winner.
“My partner was out at the time, and when I called to tell her we’d won Lotto, she didn’t believe me.
“The whole thing feels surreal.”
On the wish list for the couple is buying their own home and also taking a holiday.
Another remarkable event occurred on Saturday night, with local Whangarei store Corner Cardz N’ Magz not only selling this Lotto First Division ticket, but also the Winning Wheel ticket.
This is the second time in Lotto’s 25 year history that one store has sold two top prizes in the same draw. The only other time was in September 2011 when Pain and Kershaw in Martinborough sold a Lotto First Division Powerball ticket and a Winning Wheel ticket.
Another Whangarei local has claimed the Winning Wheel prize and will be spinning the Wheel on the live Lotto draw in June, for their chance to win $1 million.
