Lower Hutt millionaire’s gift to family
A lucky Lower Hutt Lotto winner is ecstatic after winning $1 million with Lotto First Division earlier this month and has decided to do something quite extraordinary – give all of his winnings away.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, found out he had won the million dollar prize while checking his ticket the weekend after the 13 April draw.
“I was at home on my own and decided it was the perfect time to check my tickets online.
“When I saw that the numbers on screen matched the numbers on one line of my ticket, I kept going back and forward over and over until I realised I wasn’t seeing things – I really had won Lotto!” the winner said.
When the winner had confirmation from a local Lotto store that he had indeed won a life-changing prize, he decided then and there what he would do.
“My first instinct was that I wanted to help family. I knew that by helping them, it would bring me so many rewards that money just can’t buy,” the winner said.
Straight after his winnings were deposited safely in his bank account, the winner stayed true to his heart.
“The money’s actually gone – I’ve already gifted it to my family so they can set themselves up for life.
“I’m so happy that my grandkids will also end up benefitting from it too – it’s just so wonderful to be able to help the people you are closest to,” the winner said.
The winning ticket was sold at Moera Corner Dairy & Lotto in Lower Hutt.
