No more lawn mowing for Wainuiomata Lotto millionaire
A Wainuiomata local is feeling on top of the world after winning $1 million with Lotto First Division last week.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a regular Lotto player who chose his own numbers on a whim before heading into his local Lotto store to buy his ticket.
“I was sitting in the car and just chose numbers I could see around me – on my car odometer, the neighbour’s number plate, that kind of thing. I’ve never done something like that before – but I’m so glad I did,” the winner said.
As Wainuiomata buzzed with news of the big win after the draw, the winner had no idea they were sitting on a windfall, so decided to do a few jobs around the house before checking their ticket.
“I got up early to mow my lawns before heading down to the shops and picking up the paper with the results. When I checked the results, the numbers looked really familiar but I didn’t think much of it at the time,” the winner said.
After returning home and checking his ticket properly, the winner realised why the numbers looked so familiar – they were the ones he had chosen the day before.
“The first thing I thought about when I realised I’d won big were all the chores I’d done that morning. If I’d known I’d hit the big one, I wouldn’t have bothered with the lawns – I’d have paid someone else to do them for me!” the winner laughed.
When it comes to spending his winnings, the winner already knows what he wants to do with his newfound fortune.
“I’ve always wanted a decent trailer, so that’s the first thing on the list.
“I’m also looking forward to being able to help my family so they can enjoy life more – that’s what will make me the happiest,” the winner said.
The winning ticket was sold at Wainuiomata Pharmacy in Wainuiomata.
