Pegasus Lotto player bubbling with excitement over $600,000 win
A lucky Lotto player who bought a ticket in Pegasus north of Christchurch is absolutely stunned after winning $600,000 with Strike Four on Saturday.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the ticket on a whim during a special weekend with her mother.
“We hadn’t seen each other for a while and were both feeling lucky, so we decided to splash out on a ticket each. We joked about what we might do if we won, but never thought in a million years it would happen,” the winner said.
The following day, the winner and her mother checked their tickets at a local store together.
“Mum won $21 on her ticket, which we were both really excited about. So you can imagine just how thrilled I was when they told me I’d won $600,000!
“I actually thought the prize was $600 to begin with and was over the moon. Then the Lotto staff pointed out all the extra zeros – all I could think was, ‘oh my god!’” the winner laughed.
The winner and her mother decided there was only one way to celebrate such an amazing win – pop open some champagne.
“We went out for lunch and ordered a bottle of bubbles. We were both smiling from ear to ear as we sat there, glasses in hand – it was a really special lunch,” the winner said.
When it comes to spending her winnings, a few big ticket items are on the list.
“A house and new car will be first in line and after that who knows. It’s just amazing to have options - I feel very lucky,” the winner said.
The winning ticket was sold at Pegasus General Store in Pegasus.
The Powerball jackpot for this Saturday’s Lotto draw is $13 million and Strike Four is worth $200,000.
